Don't get stuck in the trap!The tournament is played over 72 holes of stroke play, with handicap adjustments after each round.  Every competitor has a fair and equal opportunity to become a world champion, both in the team championship and individually within each flight.

The Championship and The Invitational

Two separate tournaments

World Golfers Championship (WGC) and World Golfers Invitational (WGI) are two separate competitions played simultaneously and reach out to all golfers, give them the possibility to participate in a fair and exciting game.

All WGC participants must qualify to enter, whilst WGI participants do not. Both tournaments are played separately, but at the same courses.

For yourself and your team

Team and individual

Players in both WGC and WGI compete for both individual titles within each flight, as well as an overall team title.

The Championship Team Competition combines the best four scores (of five) per day from the national team whereas the Invitational counts the combined total score of both team members.

  • The Championship
    5-person team and 5 handicap flights.
  • The Invitational
    2-person team and 6 handicap flights.
Defining skill levels
Handicap Flights

WGC is played in five handicap flights and WGI in six handicap flights, each played separately.

0-5 6-10 11-15
16-20 21-25  26-30*
*Flight 26-30 only exists in the Invitational. Players with handicap 31 or more are welcome but enter tournament with handicap 30.
Exact flights are:
0-5.4, 5.5-10.4, 10.5-11.4, etc.

All WGC players compete in the handicap flights they qualified into and most will play with their exact handicaps, with the following exceptions:

  • Players entering the world final with higher handicaps than the flights they qualified into will play with the highest handicap for their flight.
  • Players who enters the world final with lower handicaps than the flights into which they qualified will play with their current handicaps, even though they are lower then the flight.

Handicap Adjustment

To cope with the varying handicap rules from around the world, the tournament has handicap adjustments between all rounds.

Adjusted scores balance the game and evens out scores closer to par, creating a fair contest under equal conditions.

The adjustment is based on the player's score against par, see handicap adjustment chart.

85-88 = +3 strokes;
81-84 = +2 strokes;
77-80 = +1 stroke; 
70-76 = No Adjustment

64, 65 = - 3 strokes;
62, 63 = - 4 strokes;
60, 61 = - 5 strokes;
58, 59 = - 6 strokes;
56, 57 = - 7 strokes, etc.

Notes on different par:
PAR 71, then:
   69-75=No Adjust
   67-68=-1, 76-79=+1, etc.
PAR 73, then:
   71-77=No Adjust,
   69-70=-1, 78-81 =+1, etc.
Speeding up play
Equitable Stroke Control

Equitable Stroke Control sets a maximum number that a player can post on any hole.

Maximum Strokes = double par:
Par 3 = 6, Par 4 = 8, Par 5 = 10

Accredited Referees

World Golfers Championship and Invitational use accredited referees from golf federations during the world final, ensuring that the tournament is played under strict rules according to the rules of golf.
